I’m happy to say I have a big fan base with the home automation crowd, having worked in the industry as a senior designer, and worked directly with the design and management teams with a number of the big players. One such player, Exceptional Innovations, maker of the LifeWare layer of home controls built on top of Windows Media Center regularly sends me installers that are just starting out and in need of a web presence and/or identity such as eHabitat Solutions.
The owner and I immediately hit it off, partially because I think he may have sourced what has to be one of the most beautiful home automation servers I’ve ever seen so I instantly knew I had someone with a great innate design sense to collaborate with…
The identity was the keystone project in producing a paired website and UI treatment as well, so I worked closely with the owner to develop a unique brand that would be highly differentiated within this often crowded marketplace.
The choice of color corresponded with a (let’s not beat around the bush here) richer clientele that can afford to wire up their house for automation and control it with elegant touchscreen servers.
The promise of home automation is to simplify and streamline control of a home’s basic functions such as lighting, video, audio, security, HVAC and so forth… As such, the stylized “EH” mark puts an elegant and simplified house icon as the focal point of a very balanced and centered identity that itself is a suggestion to fulfill that promise.
It turned out tremendously and the owner was so thrilled he had me work up screens for the aforementioned touchscreen servers on top of the website work.
